PLAINFIELD, Ind. — Indiana State Police, IMPD, and Plainfield officers had to tag team to apprehend two suspects who stole two box trucks during a police chase on Wednesday that ended with police shooting one of the suspects.
The call first came in as the Marion County Sheriff’s Department was investigating a case and that’s when the chase began on the southwest side of Indy. The two perps they were chasing stole a U-Haul box truck and led the multi-agency contingent of officers down State Road 267 towards Plainfield.
They then made their way onto I-70 and turned back towards Indianapolis.
Michael Mynatt and Zachery White were the two men inside and they ended up stopping and abandoning the U-Haul truck on the side of the interstate near Holt Road.
After a shot chase on foot White was arrested, but Mynatt made his way to a nearby parking lot where he stole another box truck, rammed a garage door and a gate at the business, then made what Aldridge called “an aggressive turn” toward officers before crashing near Kentucky Avenue and Harding Street.
Has he got out of the box truck that’s when officers shot Mynatt in the leg. It was a Plainfield officer who shot him. Mynatt was also brought down by a police K-9 after continuing to struggle with officers and he was eventually taken into custody.
The shooting was the second of the day involving police. Indiana State Police will lead the investigation into how the whole incident unfolded.
