INDIANAPOLIS — A firefighter who was severely injured in the line of duty in 1995 has died, the Wayne Township Fire Department announced Wednesday.

Firefighter Rodrick Lambert died Saturday morning at the age of 52, due to “paralysis and other complications.”

He was paralyzed in May of 1995, when the fire engine in which he was riding overturned. This incident also killed firefighter Ronald Deer.

Following the crash, Lambert was “a fixture at Wayne Township fire stations…inspiring others to never give up on life’s challenges.”

Lambert’s funeral service will be held Tuesday at noon at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis. His visitation will be held prior to the funeral service, at 10 a.m.

The man will then be buried with honors in the Heroes of Public Safety Memorial at Crown Hill Cemetery.
