Senator Ron Johnson: We Are Demanding Complete Transparency Of The July 13th Investigation
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) joined Tony Katz Today to talk about the RNC being held in his home state of Wisconsin and the shooting that occurred in Butler, PA on July 13th.
Tony Katz:
You’re on the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs. You’re on the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. There’s been talk about the House conducting its own investigation. To what took place on July 13th and what can only be described rationally as Secret Service failures. Is this going to happen?
Senator Ron Johnson:
Well, first of all, understand the timing of events and what our capabilities are and what they are not. The agency, the FBI, Secret Service Department, Justice, local law enforcement, they have the specific investigatory tools, you know, the people on the ground to do the initial investigation. What Congress does is provide oversight on that investigation. We are demanding complete transparency of it. I’ve already sent a preservation of records demands to the agencies a list of questions that need to be answered, which is just the beginning of what we need to do in terms of our investigation of their investigation. So again, unfortunately, these agencies have not been transparent in the past. They protect their own interests; they protect their own individuals. That can’t happen. This was a massive security failure. It ended up in the result the loss of life, injuring grievously two other individuals and narrowly. President Trump narrowly avoided assassination, so we can’t sweep anything over the rug. The American people need to know exactly what happened here, who’s responsible for it, and I will be dedicated to getting those answers.
