First Indy Murder of ’22 Happens Three Hours After Midnight
INDIANAPOLIS–The first murder of 2022 happened at 3:15 a.m. on the city’s southside. A person was stabbed to death in the parking lot at 2861 Madison Ave., which is just south of the Garfield Park area and across from several fast food restaurants.
Indianapolis Metro Police Lt. Shane Foley said officers found the man in the parking lot when they arrived and also tended to what he described as an “on-going disturbance” in the lot, detaining several people.
Foley said the man was pronounced dead when paramedics got there.
The man’s name was not available, but will be released later by the coroner’s office.
Foley said officers believe everyone involved was detained and there was no threat to the public. But, anyone with any additional info is asked to call Det. Matthew Melkey at 317-327-3475.
Two people were also shot overnight, but not fatally. One was located at Riley Children’s Health, but is an adult.
The other person was shot on Lisa Walk Dr.
