INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A prison sentence of 66 years was announced for Deonta Williams Thursday, who plead guilty for the attempted murder of two police officers in 2021. The sentencing was announced by Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears.

On December 1st, 2021, two IMPD officers responded to reports of a disturbance at a home on the northside of Indianapolis. Police say Williams was the one who called 911, claiming to have been harassed. He then directed the officers down the street before he attacked them, stabbing one officer in the neck and the other in the chest.

Williams later admitted in an interview that he was not actually being harassed when he called 911. He admitted his plan was to attack the officers, hoping to kill one and be killed by the other. Williams said it was all over a medical bill he couldn’t afford and that killing an officer would allow him to “get his own justice”.

Williams faced two counts of attempted murder and one count of a prisoner possessing a deadly weapon.

“The officers were simply answering the call to help someone in need when they were horrifically attacked,” said Prosecutor Mears. “Thanks to their brave response, the defendant was quickly subdued and unable to harm anyone else. We are pleased to have achieved justice on behalf of the officers.”
