ELKHART, Ind.–The City of Elkhart may fine businesses that do not comply with the city’s COVID restrictions. At Monday’s city council meeting, the first reading of the bill passed, and it’s expected to get a second reading and vote Dec. 21.

Mayor Rod Roberson spoke emotionally about people he has lost to the virus, his own experience, and says the city will enforce the county’s rules.

“I had a cousin who died last week, I’ve had one of my best friends who died two days ago, and as all of you know I’ve been sick with it as well,” he said.

“It was not a dream; it was something that happen it’s true. So, for all of those who don’t believe the pandemic is real, I would ask you to talk to me.”
