INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis couple has been displaced after their home caught fire early Saturday morning.

The Indianapolis Fire Department was called to the burning home on 1231 E 91st Street around 3:44 a.m. Saturday.

The couple, Benjamin Hardy, 41, and Ashley Hardy, 39, told investigators their dogs woke them up. At that point, the fire had spread all across their back deck. The couple and their pets — two dogs and two cats — were able to escape before the fire got to the inside of the house.

The couple doesn’t know what caused the fire, but they did tell investigators they recently reported vandalism in the area to the police.

Their home is significantly damaged. The investigation is ongoing.
