UPDATE:  IMPD says a private security guard hired by an area housing complex was detained for their involvement in the shooting.

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was shot to death on the city’s northeast side.

Just after midnight Friday morning, officers were called to a neighborhood near 42nd and Post Road about a report of a person shot. When they got there, officers found a 25-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The woman was taken to Eskenazi Hospital where she died.

IMPD said a private security guard hired by an area housing complex has been taken into custody for their involvement in the shooting.

IMPD and Lawrence police had to work together to calm others nearby down as they say the shooting was likely the result of a fight. There were a lot of people around the area after this shooting and they were so upset that they actually set a security guard’s car on fire.

The Indianapolis Fire Department had to be brought in to put out the flames and no one else on scene was hurt.
