INDIANAPOLIS–A wreck between an SUV and an IFD fire truck resulted in the woman driving the SUV being killed Sunday morning. The woman’s name has not been given out.

Indianapolis Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Rita Reith said the wreck happened just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Southern Ave., and Shelby St., on the south side of Indy. A new release from the fire department did not say who may have been at fault, but said the fire engine was on its way to a fire.

The woman’s SUV hit the engine directly in the front and was stuck there as the two vehicles traveled about 100 ft. The SUV then came off of the engine and slid about 100 ft. more.

Reith said the engine was seriously damaged.

The crash was the second time in two days that an IFD fire truck has been involved in a wreck. No one was hurt Saturday’s collision at Fall Creek Pkwy., and Delaware St.

Reith said IFD’s Peer Support Team would be there for the firefighter’s involved in Sunday’s fatal wreck.
