LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.–Two people wanted in a “theft investigation” at a Walmart in Aurora crashed their car after police tried to stop them, according to state police.

The accident happened around 5:45 Monday afternoon.

State police say officers tried to stop a 2011 Chevrolet Impala on U.S. 50 to question the people in the Impala about the theft, but the driver drove away eastbound on U.S. 50 into Lawrenceburg.

Investigators say the driver of the Impala, 34-year-old Jesse M. Fuqua of Georgetown, Kentucky, lost control of the car and hit the back of a 2019 Ford truck driven by 39-year-old Christopher R. Gaines of Okeana, Ohio.

Fuqua and a woman in his car were taken to the University of Cincinnati Hospital with serious injuries. Gaines and a passenger in his truck were not hurt.

U.S. 50 was down to one lane through the area for about three hours.
