INDIANAPOLIS — A mother from Indianapolis will speak at the Democratic National Convention later this month.

DeAndra Dycus is expected to talk about gun violence and the support group she started after her 13-year-old son, Dre, was shot in the head at a birthday party in February 2014.

After Dre’s injury, DeAndra wanted to do something to help others. She set up Purpose 4 My Pain, a nonprofit support group for mothers who have been impacted by gun violence.

“It’s just to show you that someone cares, when you are on the road and there are sleepless nights,” Dycus told WISH-TV in 2019.

Dycus also volunteers with the Everytown Survivor Network and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
