BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Brownsburg High School and Plainfield Community School Corporation on Tuesday each reported a positive coronavirus case.
A Brownsburg Community School Corporation spokesperson confirmed a student at the high school tested positive.
A message obtained by News 8 said the school corporation is following Hendricks County Health Department guidelines and that students and staff who had close contact with the person “are being contacted separately about the next steps.” The message also said any spaces where the person might have been, had been sanitized and disinfected.
Brownsburg Community School Corporation has 11 schools with 9,453 students and 588 full-time educators. Classes started July 30 for all but the Childhood Center, which started on Monday.
Brownsburg High School enrolls 2,810 students and 173 full-time educators.
Plainfield schools says an employee has tested positive for the virus.
In a message to families, Superintendent Scott Olinger said the person self-reported the diagnosis and is isolated. The district said two other staff members who came into close contact are also quarantined. PCSC didn’t say where the employee works.
The district has nine schools with 5,759 students and 321 full-time educators. Schools in Plainfield will resume in-person and online instruction on Wednesday, according to the district’s website.
On Monday, New Palestine High School confirmed a student who had tested positive for coronavirus attended classes on the first day of school. Also on Monday, Avon schools learned a staff member tested positive for the virus. That staff member had been in the school building since school began, the district said Tuesday morning.
A Warren Central High School football player tested positive for the virus, the district confirmed Sunday. That school district is set to start classes on Thursday.
On Saturday, Southern Hancock schools confirmed that a New Palestine High School football player tested positive for COVID-19, days before school is set to begin for the district.
Also on Saturday, Elwood schools confirmed that multiple staff members had tested positive for the virus. Because a few staff of Elwood Junior-Senior High School were in close contact with one of the diagnosed employees, students at that school will have e-learning days for the week of Aug. 3-7.
On Thursday night, in neighboring Greenfield-Central schools, the district confirmed a student tested positive for coronavirus on the first day of school.
Also on Thursday, the Avon school district in Hendricks County said it learned that an Avon High School staff member tested positive for COVID-19. A district spokesperson said that the staff member had not been at the school during the week or been in close contact with any employees or students.
