INDIANAPOLIS — His career of lies, deceit, and fraud is over.

That from US Attorney Josh Minkler, who today announced the arrest of Frank Powell, also known as “Bread.”

“Bread” Powell was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison. From 2017 through 2018, he stole other people’s identities and used fraudulent checks at Indianapolis Kroger stores and other places across 12 other states. He also hired nearly two dozen people to use those checks as well.

“This sentence should send a clear message to anyone contemplating financial fraud, or any criminal activity, that the FBI will aggressively investigate those committing illegal acts and bring those activities to a grinding halt,” said Special Agent Paul Keenan of FBI Indianapolis.

“Bread” was brought down in a massive investigation that included the FBI, IMPD and several other police departments across Indiana. In the end, “Bread” and his fraud operation cost businesses across the country over 300-thousand dollars.

In addition to the decade behind bars, “Bread” will also have five years of supervised release.
