CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — A longtime firefighter in Crawfordsville remains in the hospital after being seriously hurt in an accident on his property Tuesday night.

Darren Forman isn’t just a 20-year veteran of the Crawfordsville Fire Department. He’s also the volunteer fire chief in Coal Creek Township, the Montgomery County Coroner, and works with Project Swaddle, which helps expecting mothers.

“If you look at every role that Darren fills in this community, it’s all about giving and helping other people,” says Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton.

That’s why the community is worried and keep waiting for an update on Forman.

“People are very concerned, and keep calling me,” Barton said. “And I know the fire chief has fielded a lot of inquiries and calls today. People are just genuinely concerned and they love Darren, so they want to make sure he’s okay.”

Forman remains at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after being airlifted there Tuesday night. His condition is unknown.
