GARY, Ind. — A typical walk quickly turned into a shooting.
The Lake County Sheriff’s office says a 10-year-old girl and her two brothers were walking their two dogs Tuesday afternoon along Cleveland Street.
A man, driving a blue or silver minivan, pulled into a nearby parking lot. Once he parked, one of the kids’ dogs started running towards him. The man pulled out a gun and tried to shoot the dog, but he missed and ended up shooting the girl instead. The girl was shot in both of her legs.
She was taken to Methodist Northlake Hospital and is expected to recover.
Police are still looking for the van and the man who shot her.
