LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Lafayette woman faces charges after her infant son was mauled to death by a family dog.

Jennifer Connell, 38, is charged with neglect of a dependent.

Connell’s 26-day-old son, Julian, died in January after being mauled by a pit bull mix dog, according to The Journal and Courier.

Police said Connell was at home when the pit bull began fighting with another dog in the home. When the dogs were separated, the pit bull attacked Julian, who was resting on a bed.

A police officer had to shoot the dog to get to the infant, who died after being taken to a hospital.
