FISHERS, Ind.–Two people were killed Wednesday night in what was the second fatal crash on an Indiana interstate this week.

State police say it happened around 5:40 pm in the southbound lanes of I-69 near the 106th street exit when the driver of a car swerved to get around tire debris in the road, lost control, and spun into the path of a semi. The semi then hit the car on the driver’s side.

Both the driver and passenger in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as Marcus Padgett, 19, of Spencer, Indiana. The passenger has been identified as Elizabeth Robertson, 17, of Pendleton, Indiana.

The semi driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. That driver has been identified as Anthony Manuel, 52, of Georgia.

Police don’t believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The highway was closed for several hours and didn’t reopen until around 11 pm.

The other fatal crash this week was Tuesday when a man was killed while stopped on the shoulder on I-465.
