INDIANAPOLIS — There are lots of places across the Hoosier state where you can go for a swim this summer, but the pool at your local state park isn’t one of them.

Public outdoor swimming pools will remain closed for the 2020 summer season, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced Wednesday.

Indiana DNR said the pools will remain closed because it would be difficult to practice social distancing “on the confined space of pool decks.”

Locations of the closed pools include:

  • Mounds
  • Prophetstown
  • Turkey Run
  • McCormick’s Creek
  • Spring Mill
  • Brown County
  • Versailles
  • Clifty Falls
  • O’Bannon Woods
  • Shakamak
  • Harmonie
  • Cagles Mill Lake

Even with pools closed, there are still places at other DNR properties to cool off on a hot day. Most beaches opened Memorial Day Weekend, and the beaches at Cagles Mill and Salamonie lakes will reopen when high water is no longer an issue.
