INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Three juveniles were taken into custody following a chase on the northwest side Wednesday morning, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IMPD said just after 2:30 a.m. on May 20, officers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop in the 4000 block of North Lafayette Road. Initially, police say, the vehicle pulled over and stopped. However, as officers approached the vehicle on foot, the car sped away.

A vehicle pursuit then ensued and at some point during the chase, shots were fired from the suspect’s vehicle. An IMPD patrol car was struck by gunfire.

Police said the vehicle pursuit ended following a crash in the area of 52nd Street and Lakeside Manor and the three juvenile suspects ran from the vehicle.

All three juveniles were eventually found with help from a K-9 officer, the Speedway Police Department and the use of a drone.

In addition to finding and apprehending the juveniles, officers also recovered a handgun. The vehicle the three suspects were in was found to be stolen.

One of the juveniles was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash with the two others being transported to the Juvenile Center.

IMPD said the three face preliminary charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a handgun.
