INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Crews battled a fire on the roof of a high-rise hotel Friday night on the city’s northwest side.
Pike Township Fire Department crews were called to a building alarm shortly before 8:15 p.m. at Embassy Suites by Hilton Indianapolis North hotel, 3912 Vincennes Road. That’s northwest of West 86th Street and North Michigan Road.
No injuries were reported.
The department said the fire involved a heating and air-conditioning unit on the eight-story hotel’s roof, and the fire was contained to the roof. Video from witnesses showed thick black smoke rising from the roof.
The hotel has 221 rooms, according to its website. About 60 people were staying at the hotel, and most of them evacuated the building, the department said. Arrangements were made with another hotel to lodge the displaced guests. The building was being shut down for the night.
Carmel, Pike and Speedway fire departments assisted.
