INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group will not open its Marion County locations Saturday after Indy Mayor Joe Hogsett on Thursday extended the stay-at-home order in Marion County.

Hogsett’s initial order was set to expire Friday; now it will expire on May 15.

The extension means three of the group’s 10 Indiana locations will not reopen Saturday, since they are located in Marion County.

Simon Property Group Vice President John Rulli says if Gov. Eric Holcomb lifts the statewide stay-at-home order on Friday, then the company will have stringent guidelines for reopening their other properties in the state.

“We’ll only have two entrances at each property that will be open, all of the entrances will be signed as closed, and there will be way-finding signage to tell people that entrances are open,” said Rulli. “Outside of those entrances we’ll have security and customer service people where we will have masks, wipes and digital temperature taking which we will funnel people into the property, count people in the property that based on the size of the property will be below the standard of the community.”

Holcomb’s statewide order expires Friday. He has provided no new details about an extension of the order or modifications to it.

Rulli says their reopening plan was approved by some of the top epidemiologists in the state.
