GARY, Ind.–A state trooper was seriously injured Wednesday in a crash that happened on the Indiana Toll Road.

Around 12 am, state police say Trooper Corey Adam was investigating another crash when another officer noticed a 2004 Chevrolet SUV speeding west in the left-center lane. That SUV hit Adam’s police car, which made the car hit a Mercedes as well as the median wall, police say.

Investigators say two other troopers ran over and got Adam out of his car, which was leaking gasoline onto the highway.

They have identified the driver as Cameron D. Geweniger, 30, from Wheaton, Illinois. State police say Geweniger refused medical treatment, field sobriety tests, and a certified chemical test for intoxication. He was taken Northlake Hospital where a search warrant for a blood draw was requested through the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office and granted by a magistrate.
