JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — A man was shot and killed by a state trooper in Jeffersonville.

State police Sgt. Carey Huls says a trooper was making a traffic stop for an infraction along Middle Road at around 1:00 Wednesday morning. Two people were inside the car.

“Shortly after making the traffic stop the officer requested an ambulance and reference a possible medical issue with a person in the vehicle,” Sgt. Huls said.

Not long after making that call Malcolm Williams, 27, of Clarksville kept speaking with the trooper, and Sgt. Huls says that’s when Williams pulled out a handgun.

They say Willams fired shots at the trooper who returned fire hitting Williams. He was taken to University of Louisville hospital where he died. Huls says the trooper was not hurt.

ISP is investigating.
