INDIANAPOLIS — A postal worker has died after she was shot Monday afternoon on the city’s east side.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and emergency crews were called to a person shot shortly before 4 p.m. in the 400 block of Denny Street. That’s just southeast of East Michigan Street and North Sherman Drive.

The woman died later at a hospital, IMPD said Monday night.

She has been identified as 45-year-old Angela Summers. She died from a gunshot wound, according to the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and IMPD are investigating the homicide and the FBI is assisting.

The FBI said, however, that the Postal Inspection Service is leading the investigation as IMPD had said it relates to a postal worker.

The Postal Inspection Service did not immediately answer a request for information from News 8, and a local representative of the U.S. Postal Service said she could not comment.

IMPD provided no information on a possible suspect or whether the shooting was an isolated incident.

The U.S. Inspection Service is now offering up to a $50,000 reward for information in the killing.
