INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has identified the on-duty officer who hit and killed a person on Sunday night.

Officer Conrad Simpson, a 19-year veteran of IMPD, was headed north on Kentucky Avenue near S. Lynhurst Drive when he hit a person along the roadway, according to IMPD.

Officer Simpson gave the victim first aid and requested assistance from Indianapolis EMS.

Indianapolis EMS arrived and helped the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Simpson cooperated with investigators and submitted to a blood draw, which is standard procedure for anyone involved in a fatal crash.

Investigators do not believe Officer Simpson was impaired at the time of the crash. However, investigators do believe poor visibility due to weather could be a factor.

The name of the victim will not be released until family members have been notified.
