INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Bethany Pointe Health Campus, a long-term care facility in Anderson, has had 24 deaths from COVID-19, a state health official said Friday.

Indiana’s health commissioner, Dr. Kris Box, said during the state’s coronavirus news conference that the tally had increased by 13 since Monday.

Sixteen of these people had tested positive for the virus and the other eight had symptoms compatible with COVID-19, Box said.

“This is a tragedy for the families. It’s a tragedy for the health care staff that grew close to these residents. It’s a tragedy for the entire state, and that why we continue to expand our strike teams and send them into long-care facilities across the state,” she said.

The “strike teams,” Box has said, are talking with long-term care facility staff and also working to confirm they have enough supplies to test residents.

The Indiana State Department of Health reported Friday morning that 300 Hoosiers have died as a result of COVID-19.
