INDIANAPOLIS--An IMPD officer and another driver were injured in a crash that happened on Indy’s south side Friday morning.
The accident happened around 7:30 in the area of South Keystone Avenue and National Avenue near I-65.
“There were four other police cars in front of him. They had all entered the intersection and proceeded northbound. He was the fifth car. He had a green light, according to witnesses. At that point, a vehicle proceeding southbound on National ran the light and struck his vehicle,” said IMPD Officer Genae Cook.
Cook believes the driver who hit the IMPD officer had some kind of medical issue.
“The officer had to be extricated from the vehicle due to the impact,” Cook said.
IMPD said the officer was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition. The driver of the other car is in critical condition at a hospital.
