MUNCIE, Ind. — A fourth Hoosier has died from the coronavirus, said the Indiana State Department of Health.

The Delaware County Health Department and the Delaware County Coroner’s Office confirmed the death on Saturday afternoon.

The patient, an elderly woman, was being treated at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. The ISDH said that she was over the age of 60.

“Although this is not the outcome we hoped for, I am grateful for the compassion and excellence our providers, nurses and other team members showed in providing a safe and high-quality environment for this patient and their family,” said Jeff Bird, President of IU Health East Central Region. “We acknowledge the concerns which now exist in our community and are committed to responding to challenges of this unprecedented time.”

It’s the second straight day that someone in Indiana has died from the coronavirus. A patient over the age of 60 in Marion County died Friday.
