INDIANAPOLIS — Sears announced Thursday that they would be closing dozens of stores nationwide including three in and around Indianapolis.

The struggling company said it identified nearly 100 Sears and Kmart stores that are not turning a profit and they have chosen 63 of them that will be closing in the “near future.”

The three stores in Indiana affected by the closures include:

  • Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis
  • Muncie Mall in Muncie
  • Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette

The company has already closed nearly 400 stores over the past year and according to CNN there are less than 900 left in the country. The two chains had roughly 3,500 stores in the U.S. when they merged in 2005.

The company released a list of only 63 stores slated for closing on Thursday: 48 Sears stores and 15 Kmart stores, spread across 29 states.

Sears has not said when the stores will close.
