NEW CASTLE, Ind. –  An argument at a Henry County home ended with a steak knife to the chest for one person and a trip to the county jail for another.

Sheriff’s deputies called to a house in Spiceland late Wednesday found a 34-year-old man lying on the floor with a steak knife sticking out of his chest.

The man’s girlfriend, Heather Whitfield, 33, told deputies she plunged the knife into her boyfriend’s chest in an act of self-defense.

The pair said they had been arguing over money that had disappeared from Whitfield’s purse.

Whitfield was arrested and charged with battery with a deadly weapon. She could spend up to three years in prison, if convicted.

The man survived and is recovering at Methodist hospital in Indianapolis.
