LAWRENCE, Ind.–A man who police say led them on a brief chase has been arrested in Lawrence.

The chase started Thursday night ended early Friday morning.

Officers were responding to a call of shots fired at Churchill Ranch Apartments near 42nd and Franklin Road around 11:30 pm. That’s where the chase started.

Police in Lawrence say when they arrived, they saw the man driving away and tried to stop him.

During the chase, investigators say he threw a firearm out of the window of the car he was driving.

The man later circled back and jumped out of the moving car holding a rifle on Montery Road.

Police first said the suspect fired shots at them and they returned gunfire. Lawrence Police Chief Gary Woodruff later said they believe the suspect only walked toward them with a rifle, but did not fire any shots. Officers fired at him, then the he took off on foot. He left several weapons behind.

No officers were injured.

The man was shot in the thigh, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
