LAWRENCE, Ind.–Five people were shot at a birthday party at the Lawrence Lion’s Club Saturday night.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested. He is accused of shooting the teenagers at the party.

Police are still trying to determine if anyone else fired shots.

A 13-year-old boy was shot in the face. He is in critical condition, but is recovering. The other four, 14 years and younger, all sustained non-life threatening injuries to their hands and legs.

A neighbor, Mike Beeler, heard the gunfire from his garage. He drove to the Lion’s Club and performed CPR on the boy who was shot in the face. Beeler has lost a son.

“Losing a child is the worst feeling in the world. It’s a struggle every day not to be able to see my son. I didn’t want them to have to go through that,” Beeler said.

Beeler is a military veteran.

“It’s traumatizing enough just them being at the hospital not knowing if the boy was going to make it or not. That’s hard enough on the family,” Beeler said.

Police say it was a physical confrontation between two people that escalated before the gunfire started.

The shooting broke out just after 10:30 pm on N.Richardt Avenue which is not far from the Zion Hope Independent Baptist Church.

It remains under investigation by the Lawrence Police Department.
