LEBANON, Ind. — A man charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a sheriff’s deputy wants his trial moved to another county.

According to the Associated Press, attorneys for 21-year-old Anthony Baumgardt filed for a change of venue from Boone County on June 7th.

Baumgardt is facing a long list of charges including murder for shooting Deputy Jake Pickett to death as he was trying to get away from Pickett.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case and have 10 days to respond to the motion.

“When someone takes the life of a police officer, by intentionally killing him/her, while he/she is acting in the line of duty, then that person should have to face the ultimate penalty, which, in the State of Indiana, is a sentence of death,” Meyer said in a statement back in April.

Baumgradt is currently being held without bond in the Hamilton County Jail. A new trial date has not been set.
