GIBSON COUNTY, Ind.–A freight train derailment and explosion in Gibson County is causing people in the area to evacuate.

The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office and emergency service personnel issued a mandatory resident evacuation within a one mile radius in Princeton, Indiana, on Sunday evening following the train derailment and explosion.

Sunday, police started receiving 911 calls of the derailment and a subsequent explosion in the area of Old U.S. 41 and Canifff Trailer Court. The train derailed about 2100 feet west of the trailer park.

Emergency service personnel went door to door businesses and homes to tell people to evacuate.

CSX says preliminary reports show a release from a railcar containing propane.

The train had two locomotives, 89 loaded railcars, and 9 empty railcars.

No injuries have been reported.

Residents who have been displaced have been asked to go to the Gibson County Fairgrounds and Toyota Events Center.
