LOGANSPORT, Ind. — A crack in a 14-year-old cold case has led to a pair murder charges for a man from Logansport.

On June 28, 2004, Lois Schmidt and her 7-year-old son, Jonathan Vetrano, were found shot to death inside a burning house in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

On Sunday, Richard Stoner, 43, was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder. He is in the Cass County Jail, awaiting extradition to Virginia. A second man has also been charged in the case; he is not an Indiana resident.

Logansport Police told The Pharos-Tribune newspaper that they’ve been working on the case with Virginia Beach Police for about two months.
