Politico reporting Judges Thomas Hardiman and Brett Kavanaugh have emerged as the final 2 contenders for the Supreme Court as President Donald Trump edges closer to his primetime announcement according to a Republican who spoke to the president in the past 24 hours and a Trump adviser.

Things get a little tricky as many say Kavanaugh isn’t conservative enough. Conservatives take issue with Kavanaugh’s decisions on ObamaCare and abortion-related cases. With Republicans’ 51-seat majority effectively reduced to 50 as GOP Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) battles brain cancer, Kavanaugh could struggle to get confirmed without some help from Senate Democrats.

GOP Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Tom Cotton (Ark.) are among a bloc of conservatives who have privately expressed concerns to the White House about nominating Kavanaugh.

“Whoever the President picks tonight there is going to be some baggage…Trump may offer up Kavanaugh as a sacrifical lamb to the Democrats… After that he can select who he really wants.”
