FRANKLIN, Ind.–An ultralight helicopter crashed near the runway at Franklin Flying Field, about 5:45 Sunday evening, said Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox.
Cox said the pilot was the only one on board the Bell 47 when it went down. He was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, and was conscious and alert.
Cox did not name the pilot. He was already out of the wreckage when emergency responders arrived.
Cox didn’t speculate on what caused the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration was called.
