(INDIANAPOLIS) – Veterans can now get lifetime passes to ride the IndyGo bus system.

IndyGo has used grant money to supply stacks of one-time bus passes to veterans’ groups, homeless shelters, and other service agencies. CEO Mike Terry says that was inefficient, and the veterans’ portion of the program was discontinued a couple of years ago.

Now, veterans will pay $2 for a swipe card with unlimited use. You’ll need to present either your discharge papers and a photo ID, or your Veterans Affairs ID, to get the pass.

Terry estimates the program will cost IndyGo $100,000. He says making transportation options more available represents a “lifeline” for many people who need to be able to get to work or medical appointments.
