MUNCIE, Ind. – The building commissioner for the City of Muncie will plead guilty to wire fraud and money laundering charges after being accused of charging the city hundreds of thousands of dollars for work that was done at over-inflated prices or not done at all.

Nichols was originally facing 34 charges, but prosecutors have dropped 32 of them as part of the plea agreement.

The Muncie Star Press says Nichols has been on leave since being indicted.  His home and offices were raided by the FBI in Jan. and May 2017.

His trial was scheduled to start on Aug. 27.

Nichols faces up to 20 years in prison and $500,000 in fines.
