GARY, Ind. — The search is over for a Merrillville woman who went missing in Lake Michigan.
Divers from the Hobart Fire Department recovered the body of Tiara Hardy, 24, on Tuesday.
Gary Police say she was found about one-quarter mile west of Marquette Park beach and roughly 150 yards from the shore.
Hardy was swimming with two friends Monday night when the water became rough and choppy.
Witnesses told police they saw Hardy struggling in the waves before she went under and disappeared.
Hardy’s friends, a man and a woman, made it to shore. Both are okay.
Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement District 10 says the investigation into Hardy’s death is ongoing.
Police and DNR investigators don’t suspect foul play, but they won’t know exactly how Hardy died until an autopsy is performed.
