ANDERSON, Ind.–Murder charges have been filed in the death of a 23-month-old girl in Anderson.

The Madison County Prosecutor has charged Ryan Ramirez, 29, with murder.

They’ve also charged his girlfriend Kayla Hudson with neglect of a dependent resulting in death and reckless supervision by a child care provider. Hudson is the girl’s mother.

Court documents say Ramirez looked after the 23-month old girl, Paisley Hudson, and another child while Kayla Hudson worked Friday night.

Police say the other child, 3, was also found to have bruising throughout his body along with a broken wrist, and cigarette burns on his ankles.

Ramirez says he told police they all went to pick Hudson up from work and he later put Paisley to sleep face down on her Pack-n-Play.  Kayla told police she then went to Walmart to buy cream and tea bags, which she returned and applied to the boy’s body, to treat bruises and swelling. She says she then left again to get food and cigarettes.

When she came back, Kayla says she asked Ramirez if he had checked on Paisley and he claimed that he changed her diaper. At about 6:15 am, they both became concerned that Paisley hadn’t woken up or moved. When she tried to wake Paisley, she told police that the girl was not breathing and cold to the touch.

Kayla says that instead of calling 911, she undressed her daughter and put her in a warm bath while performing CPR to try to raise her body temperature. When Paisley wouldn’t wake up, she put a clean diaper on her and dressed her before taking her to the hospital.

Hudson told investigators she thought she could get there quicker by driving herself instead of calling an ambulance. She drove Paisley to the hospital, and police say Ramirez headed to Chesterfield where his mother and sons lived.

Documents show Paisley arrived in the emergency room at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital at 6:49 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 7:06 a.m.
