(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indy’s arts groups are marking the beginning of a new season with the annual “Start With Art” celebration.

The City-County Council will vote in a few weeks on a proposed budget which continues a million-dollar allocation for the Arts Council of Indianapolis. And Mayor Joe Hogsett recently announced a 100-thousand-dollar grant program to provide seed money for four new cultural districts to nurture artists in film, music, dance, design and cooking. Tthe city is working with the Indy Chamber on ways to spotlight the city’s musical history.

Hogsett told business and arts leaders at the luncheon that the arts are more visible in Indianapolis than ever before. He says it’s  a critical element in breaking down boundaries and uniting city residents. His proposed budget for next year continues a million-dollar line item for the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

And Hogsett poked some fun at himself with a video showing him donning leg warmers and training for his own dance showcase, while dancers and choreographers from Dance Kaleidoscope and the Indianapolis Movement Arts Collective opined the mayor could launch a new dance career, “if you have the right teachers and the right physical therapy staff.”
