WASHINGTON, D.C.–An Indiana man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on child pornography charges. Federal agents in Alexandria, Virginia, said Bradley Robert Segert, 30, of Evansville, is charged with using a private messenger for child pornographers on an app called Kik Messenger.
The indictment said Segert was co-administrator of the app, which requires members to submit child pornography to become members.
Segert is charged with one count of conspiracy to receive and distribute child pornography, one count of distribution of child pornography, and one count of receipt of child pornography.
According to the indictment, between January 2015 and August 2015, Segert administered a mobile messaging group on Kik, dedicated to sharing and trading images and videos of child pornography. During this period, Segert and another administrator living in Virginia, required Kik users interested in becoming members of the group to send them images and videos of child pornography in order to gain admission.
Additionally, the indictment said that Segert knowingly distributed and received child pornography in interstate commerce, including to and from Virginia.
The federal government credits Project Safe Childhood for the catch. That federal program to help stop the electronic exploitation of children was started in 2006.
