PRINCETON, Ind. – A Gibson County man has been found not guilty of murder in the shooting death of a motel manager earlier this year.
Anthony Christian Hoskins, 21, was acquitted after a jury decided that he had shot Steve Hess, the co-manager of the Diplomat Motel in Oakland City, in self-defense.
According to the Princeton Daily Clarion, Hess was found dead in the motel parking lot. Investigators say Hess had been fighting with Hoskins about whether his sister and friend had been using drugs in their motel room.
Hoskins was arrested after the incident on Feb. 7, which was his 21st birthday.
Hoskins’ attorney argued that the shooting was in self-defense and that Hess had a wooden club in his possession at the time of the dispute.
Hoskins was also found not guilty of voluntary manslaughter and reckless homicide charges.
