NEW ALBANY, Ind. — The Sherman Minton Bridge in New Albany is getting a massive makeover.
INDOT and the Kentucky Dept. of Transportation are going in on the $90 million project together, which will replace and rehabilitate the road decks on the 56-year-old bridge. New lighting and drainage systems will be installed as well along with a fresh coat of paint.
“Our goal is to add about 30 years of service life,” said INDOT project manager Ron Heustis. “It’s already been fully funded so there will be no tolls for the Sherman Minton.”
Overall project manager Mary Jo Hamman with Michael Baker International said there could be periods of time when the bridge is completely closed or it could be done with lane closures. There will be public meetings in New Albany and Louisville to gauge public feedback on that part of the plan.
The work is expected to start in 2021 and last two to three years.
