SEOUL — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un says he’ll visit South Korea in the near future.
Kim made the announcement Wednesday at a summit in Pyongyang with South Korean leader Moon Jae-in. At the joint press conference, Moon said a summit with Kim could happen in Seoul sometime this year. A Seoul summit with Kim Jong Un would be the first visit to the South by a North Korean leader since the peninsula split in half during the Korean War.
Moon also said at the press conference that the North has agreed to permanently close a missile testing and launching site in the presence of international experts. Moon said the leaders agreed that the Korean Peninsula should turn into a land of peace without nuclear weapons and nuclear threats.
The two leaders also announced that they will jointly bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympics.
