MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind.–A drunk and disorderly person was shot by a Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy Sunday afternoon. That’s what the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is saying.

It happened around 2:30 at a home in Waynetown.

Officers say they got to that home and found a man drunk and belligerent.

They say he came out of the home with a gun, pointed it in the direction of officers and other people. A deputy shot him. That man was taken to a hospital in serious condition, but he did survive.

“We’re hear to protect the citizens of Indiana. If there is an aggressor that’s coming at either us or and/or a third party, we can do whatever needs to be done to stop the aggressor,” Indiana State Police Sergeant Kim Riley said to RTV6.

No one else was hurt. The State Police are handling the investigation.
