INDIANAPOLIS–Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard was named Defensive Rookie of the Month by the NFL.

His 54 tackles through the first four games are the most by any NFL player through a team’s first four games since 1994.

Leonard became just the fifth Colt to earn NFL Rookie of the Month honors and just the second defensive player, the other one being defensive end Dwight Freeney.

After finishing with 19 tackles (15 solo), 1.0 tackle for loss, 1.0 sack, one pass defensed and one forced fumble in Week 2 at Washington, Leonard was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week and Pepsi Rookie of the Week.

He is the only player in the NFL with at least 25 tackles and 4.0 sacks this season.
