HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind.–A man tried to beat an oncoming Amtrak train Tuesday night near Brownsburg, but the train hit his Chevrolet Impala.

It happened shortly after 11 Tuesday night near the intersection of N. County Rd. 900 E. and E. U.S. 136 near Brownsburg.

Police say the Amtrak train stopped briefly before moving on.

That man was driving the Impala and was the only one inside of it. He got out of the car and only sustained minor head injuries.

Officers think the man may have driven around the crossing arms.

The Amtrak train was going east through Brownsburg, having recently dropped off passengers in Lafayette en route to downtown Indianapolis.

Investigators say the train was going about 60 mph when it hit the car.
