Voters in Indiana’s 4th district will choose between Democrat congressional candidate Tobi Beck and Republican Jim Baird on November the 4th.

It’s an uphill climb for Beck in a district where outgoing congressman Todd Rokita won no less than 62 percent of the vote in his four campaigns, and where Trump won by more than 30 percentage points in 2016.

Candidate Beck stopped by the WIBC studios Tuesday morning to make her case with voters during the Tony Katz show:

On Winning in a Red District:

“It comes down to the people and recognizing what the people want in their representative. When I started to run, I went fairs, community centers, veterans’ halls and actually asked the people how they wanted to be represented in Washington instead of making assumptions. And what I learned is that they had an opinion, but nobody had asked them… So I asked them.”

On Supporting Strong Military Spending:

“A substantial portion of our men and women in the military are living in poverty. So let’s look at providing livable wages for our soldiers. These are people who are willing to die for us and many of them are on food stamps. There’s an issue there”

On Healthcare for Everyone:

“All demographics agree that we need affordable healthcare, and the answer to a healthcare plan that works is already in existence through the military; it’s called ‘TRICARE.’ And most of the people who have TRICARE fight to keep it because they like it better than any other form of insurance. With TRICARE, you show your card and you’re covered. It costs about 4{ec4469d41b0b7bdea208b8171ec4991583ff3a026010edcbf3170c07ae1b643f} of income, but you’re just covered. If you have cancer, you’re covered; a child’s checkup, you’re covered; you’re in an accident and need medical treatment or surgery, you’re covered.”
